EFT/NLP

EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) is relatively new in the UK having been originally discovered in the US by Roger Callaghan as TFT (Thought Field Therapy) and then developed by Gary Craig (US) into EFT and has its roots in Applied Kinesiology. It is a process which involves tapping on energy meridians while "tuning" in to the problem.

The basis of EFT is that the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system. EFT balances the body's energy system, removing any disturbance in the energy flow.

It is painless, has no known side-effects, is usually permanent and, at times, little short of miraculous.

It is not uncommon for long standing phobias or chronic pain to be released entirely in one session. Similarly, psychological stress such as anxiety, stress, depression and addictions caused by childhood memories can be relieved in a single session. Experienced practitioners can usually claim an 80% success rate using this technique which can easily be combined with other therapies.

Although EFT is not a hypnotic technique, Linda often uses it in conjunction with hypnosis, or as a stand-alone treatment to eradicate a whole range of conditions, such as

  • Addictive cravings – food, alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, chocolate
  • Anxiety and panic attacks
  • Physical problems, including migraines and back pain
  • PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder)
  • Fears and phobias
  • Insomnia
  • IBS (irritable bowel syndrome)
  • Public speaking and sports enhancement.
  • Etc, etc, etc – it can be used on everything, physical and emotional.

The next EFT workshop will be held on 13th September 2008. Information and a booking form is available here.

NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming)

NLP was founded and developed by Bandler and Grinder who started by analysing in detail what it was that made some psychotherapists more successful than others. They studied the behaviour and techniques of these therapists and designed a "model" of their behaviour and techniques which could be taught to others.

The original models were Milton Erickson (hypnotherapist), Virginia Satir (family therapist) and Fritz Perls (gestalt therapy).

These therapists had realised that the human mind can be restricted by our individual view of the world as we know it, based on our individual experience, beliefs, values and assumptions.

We act and feel based on our perception of the world rather than the real world..

They were able to "step into" the world of their client and lead them out of their limited perceptions of their problems towards new possibilities using specific language and techniques.

The explanation of NLP can sound complicated, but in fact the technique is quite simple but very powerful.

The brain is like a computer, running your own individual programmes from your life experiences. Some of these programmes will be good and positive. Others will be negative, destructive and damaging.

Simply put, NLP is used to "change the programme" to what the client wants to eliminate or achieve.

NLP teaches that we constantly make anchors (associations) between what we see, hear, feel and our emotional states. While in an emotional state, if a person is exposed to a unique stimulus (sight, sound or touch), a connection is made between emotion and the stimulus. If the unique stimulus occurs again, the emotional state will be triggered.
